European Development Days: Global Gateway 2022

On 21 and 22 of June, the leading global forum on development cooperation, the European Development Days (EDD) took place in Brussels. This edition was focused on Global Gateway, the EU’s strategy to invest in smart, clean and secure infrastructure in digital, energy and transport sectors and strengthen health, education and research systems across the world, which tackles inequalities and puts the Sustainable Development Goals back on track.

During the event, participants could take part in more than 90 sessions, including high-level panels with the five key themes of the Global Gateway: Digital, Transport, Climate, Energy, Health, Education and Research.

This event was attended by several personalities such as the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen (who addressed the opening ceremony), the President of the European Council, Charles Michel; European Investment Bank President, Werner Hoyer; President of the Republic of Ghana and Chairman of ECOWAS, Nana Akufo-Addo; President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani; President of the Republic of Cabo Verde, José Maria Neves; Prime Minister of the Republic of Namibia, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila; Prime Minister of the Republic of Congo, Anatole Collinet Makosso or the Prime Minister of Belize, John Briceño, among others.

The Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, closed the ceremony and also participated in sessions on Global Gateway in Central Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and the Indo-Pacific region.
