New Horizon Europe calls: 318 million for energy research and innovation

New Horizon Europe calls: 318 million for energy research and innovation
18 September 2025

A new set of calls under Horizon Europe is now open, offering a total of EUR 318 million in EU funding. It covers 20 topics across two key destinations, providing opportunities for ambitious projects in the field of energy research and innovation:

  • Sustainable, secure and competitive energy supply (HORIZON-CL5-2026-02-D3)
  • Efficient, sustainable and inclusive energy use (HORIZON-CL5-2026-02-D4).

Horizon Europe is the EU’s flagship research and innovation programme for 2021–2027, with an overall budget of EUR 95.5 billion. Within the programme, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) is responsible for managing parts of Cluster 5, under which this call falls, focusing on energy, climate action, and mobility research actions.

Cluster 5 plays a central role in accelerating the twin green and digital transitions, supporting the EU’s ambition to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. At the same time, it aims to enhance the competitiveness of European economies, foster technological leadership, and encourage sustainable industrial growth.

The deadline for submission is 17 February 2026. The requirements for submitting a project proposal are detailed in the relevant documents published on the individual call page. The submitted proposals are then evaluated by independent experts drawn from the European Commission's database of external evaluators.
