EUROPEAN GREEN CALL IS OPEN: €1 Billion Investment in Green and Digital Transition
The European Commission has launched a €1 billion call for research and innovation projects that respond to the climate crisis and help protect Europe's unique ecosystems and biodiversity. The deadline for submissions is 26 January 2021, with selected projects expected to start in autumn 2021.
The projects funded under this call are expected to deliver results in ten areas.
Eight thematic areas:
- Increasing climate ambition
- Clean, affordable and secure energy
- Industry for a clean and circular economy
- Energy and resource efficient buildings
- Sustainable and smart mobility
- Farm to fork
- Biodiversity and ecosystems
- Zero-pollution, toxic-free environments
And two horizontal areas:
- strengthening knowledge and
- empowering citizens.
The Call aims to drive a rapid transition to a circular, green and clean industry: a growth engine that will not leave any industrial sector behind, and it will be another tool for Europe recovery from the Covid-19 crisis and the development of strength, capacity and resilience. Projects are expected to deliver tangible and visible results relatively quickly and show how research and innovation can provide concrete solutions for the Green Deal main priorities.
It is worth to highlight that the EU Green Deal Call represents a conceptual and practical bridge from Horizon 2020 and the next R&I FP Horizon Europe on the main priority of the new European Commission and introduces a clear a systemic approach. This means that the projects proposals are expected to provide systemic solutions and innovations, by thinking out of the silos and contribute to achieve circularity.
